What is an ISO 19600 Compliance Management System?
An ISO 19600 Compliance Management System provides a framework for managing adherance with your legal requirements including Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards (International and Australian). It helps organisations to develop, implement, evaluate and maintain a system of compliance and incorporates Risk Management processes, similar to those of ISO 31000.
What’s the difference between a Quality Management System (QMS) and a Compliance Management System (CMS)?
Whilst a QMS (ISO 9001) does include a requirement to “meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements”, this is the main requirement of a Compliance Management System. So you could say that all Quality Management Systems are inherently a Compliance Management System, but include much more extensive requirements related to product, service and customer satisfaction.
Background – Made in Australia
ISO 19600 was based on an existing Australian Standard AS 3806 – Compliance Programs which was issued in 1998 and updated in 2006. The current version of ISO 19600 was published in December 2014.
